Conclusion
In my experience, some Lebanese parents felt more at ease placing their kids in a resource classroom because they may think of it as 1-on-1 tutoring; whereas others might feel pressured to have their child in a resource room due to cultural stigma. Those Lebanese parents believe that having their child placed in a resource room may affect their social reputation as well as their child’s. They may feel that their child does not meet the standards of his peers and placing him in a resource classroom is taboo, because he/she must be placed with his/her peers. One of the ways in which cultural stigma may be diminished is when a parent feels satisfied with his/her child’s progress in the resource room; time is also a factor (having parents realize that having their child in a resource classroom after a certain time period isn’t such a big deal).
